Chapter Nine
Being up on the roof tonight had reminded Samantha of the time the two of them had spent together on the ranch. She hadn’t realized how much she missed that weekend until she had a piece of it back. The two of them had just laid back and looked up at the few stars they could make out past the bright lights of the city. Only the brightest stars were visible. That night when the two of them had gotten drunk out by the fire on the ranch, the sky had been full of stars. At least it seemed like there was no one else in the world but the two of them once again.
They’d pulled the air mattress out of the tent by the gas logs and curled up together, just talking about the day. It was nice. If he hadn’t been here, Sam would have been crying into a takeout container or texting Debbie until she passed out alone in bed watching old movies. Instead, she was curled up with a handsome guy who she was falling a little more in love with every day on the roof of her apartment building. She couldn’t believe he’d gone to the trouble of setting all of this up just for her, even before he knew she was having a bad day. It was more than she could say of any other guy she’d ever dated.
She wouldn’t have believed the two of them would be cuddled up on an inflatable mattress on top of her roof when she first met him. She wouldn’t have believed Reid had this in him. He was supposed to be a bad boy, covered in muscles and tattoos. Instead, he was being the nicest guy she’d ever spent any time with.
“Well, Reid Spencer, who’d have thought we would wind up here?” She turned, pressing another kiss to his lips and winding her arms around his neck as their legs tangled together.
His laugh was deep and contagious against her lips.
“Not me, Legs. It was fate though, and I wouldn’t have changed a minute of it.” He stole another kiss and let his hands wander down her body as she molded herself into his chest and pulled him in closer with a soft moan. The two of them just lay there like that for a while, getting lost in each other until he pulled the red kerchief out of his back pocket with a sly grin.
“Want to play a little game?” He dangled it between them for a moment until she nodded, and he moved in to wrap the piece of fabric around her eyes again, tying it in a careful knot behind her head. She’d been here before, about an hour ago when the two of them had found their way up here. This time it was something different.
Taking her sight away from her made Sam pay attention to all the other things around her. The cool night air brushed across her skin and it contrasted deliciously with the warmth of Reid’s body against hers.
